A couch that won't kill you

Okay, I'm being hyperbolic. Your couch can't kill you, but it can be a very unhealthy addition to your home. Ever since seeing this documentary about the toxic chemical flame retardants injected into foam in furniture and lots of baby products, I've been obsessed with finding a healthy couch. The 1975 California law that effectively required manufacturers to include these chemicals was changed late last year, which means in the next couple years more and more couches will be made without these chemicals. But I needed a couch now and it turns out most couches are still made the toxic way. I looked everywhere and made lots of inquiries. My saving grace ended up being a new, online company called Joybird. I was blown away by their customer service and the functionality of their website. They make their products in the US, without toxic chemicals, and they have an amazing return policy. So I bought this couch and it couldn't have been easier.

A Film About Coffee

Filmmaker Brandon Loper is working on a beautiful feature length film about coffee,

Dino DNA!

 

Jurassic Park has always been one of my favorite movies. Knowing this, co-worker/desk-neighbor Mike Rook sent me a link to the art of Pakoto, an artist from Granda, Spain. I love his playful, vintage take on these scenes from the movie. Mike also introduced me to this Jurassic Park internet delight. 

Casablanca

I love old movies. While all other children of the 80s were watching Gremlins and Labyrinth, my parents were giving me in education of classic films, one friday night pizza party at a time. Casablanca is well deserving of it's ranking among the best of the best, and if you haven't seen it recently, get after it. Plus, Ingrid Bergman is just doe-eyed, Swedish perfection.

A Better Sweater

This is a craft project I recently actually completed. I used a merlot wool sweater that I've had forever and definitely should have retired several years ago. The longest part of the process was cutting the sweater into 3" long "leaves." I used foam core for the wreath base (it looks round, but it's actually flat!) and then hot glued the feathers on so that they overlapped each other evenly. And I did it all while watching Robert Altman's 1994 satirical look at fashion, Prêt-à-Porter. A must-see for every fashion enthusiast or anyone who's really into the 90s.

Here's a fun round-up done by Design Sponge for the summer classic, The Parent Trap, starring 

Hayley Mills. I need to watch this again soon. The first part of the movie takes place at a summer camp for girls. I really wish there were summer camps for grown women. I would totally do that.
